According to a Wedding Wire survey, 40 percent of proposals occur between Thanksgiving and Valentine’s Day — meaning there are scores of giddy couples diving into the planning process right now and fantasizing about their upcoming nuptials.
Want to wow them, without losing your sanity or profit margin? Then save the date for the Society of American Florists’ 1-Day Profit Blast in Boston sponsored by Jacobson on Sunday, March 31. Jody McLeod, AIFD, NCCPF, will offer tips and tricks to help you end a wedding day saying, “Well, that was easy.” (Yes, really!)
During his presentation, “Design Hacks and Smart Services to Delight Consumers,” sponsored by Syndicate Sales, McLeod will demonstrate how to use some of the latest tools and mechanics to save you time and money during wedding prep, as well as best practices to reduce stress throughout the entire process — from the consultation to teardown.
“The best way to increase efficiency is to plan, plan, plan,” said McLeod, owner of Annie V’s Floral Design Studio in Clayton, North Carolina — as well as the town’s mayor.
Among McLeod’s secrets for success? Delegating (weddings are best approached as a team sport) and writing down all the details, so there’s no ambiguity with any staff member.
“Make sure your wedding lists are understandable to everyone in the shop,” he said. “You may know, but they may not, so make it easy and clear. Have a detailed breakdown of the recipe for each design. It’s well worth the time, as it eliminates too much excess product.”
McLeod will highlight some of the common ways florists waste time (read: money) with their wedding business and will offer easy ways around them. His program kicks off a full and well-rounded day of education. Joining him are the following speakers:
- Floral accounting expert Derrick Myers, CPA, CFP, PFCI, president of Crockett, Myers & Associates, Inc., will present “Lost in Space: Where Are Your Profits?”
- Customer engagement aficionado Sam Bowles FSC, a director of FloralStrategies, will present “Extraordinary Service in Your Shop Every Day,” sponsored by FloristWare
- Social selling specialist Crystal Vilkaitis, owner of Social Edge, will present “Six Steps to a Profitable Social Media Strategy.”
There’s also a Supplier Showcase and plenty of time for networking with vendors and other florists.
