Nicole and Sue Palazzo had already landed in South Florida on Tuesday, September 5, when they got the bad news: due to the threat of Hurricane Irma, SAF Palm Beach 2017 was cancelled.
“We were totally heartbroken, as we’d been looking forward to the convention since the day we left the previous one in Hawaii. No joke!” Nicole said. “We love SAF events. We always come away feeling refreshed and motivated.”
Figuring that SAF’s 1-Day Profit Blast series “would be the next best thing,” the mother and daughter team behind City Line Florist in Trumbull, Connecticut checked their calendars for their earliest opportunity for a business boost.
“Unfortunately, I was traveling in Europe when Profit Blast came to Boston, which would have been a short drive. So off to Louisville — 810 miles away — we Connecticut girls go,” Nicole said. “But I have total confidence the trip will be worth every penny.”
SAF’s 1-Day Profit Blast in Louisville, Saturday, November 4, will feature four experts offering design, financial, customer service and marketing advice.
Helen Miller, AIFD, CAFA, CF, owner of Flowers & Such in Adrian, Michigan will address millennials’ obsession with plants. Learn strategies to connect with this generation and creative ways to green customers’ homes from her presentation, “Tiny Houses, Big Design Opportunities.”
Derrick Myers, CPA, CFP, PFCI, president of Crockett, Myers & Associates in Glen Burnie, Maryland and a regular Floral Management contributor will divulge pricing formulas that guarantee profitability and best practices to ensure you get paid during “Eventology: The Science of Profitable Events.”
Get tongue-tied on the phone? Tim Huckabee, president of FloralStrategies, LLC, and a Floral Management columnist, will inject you with confidence with language that’s professional but conversational in his interactive session, “Build the Perfect Sales Script.”
Thanks to algorithm shifts on Facebook and Instagram, having a presence on social media isn’t enough. Crystal Vilkaitis, owner of Crystal Media, offers secrets that help retailers get due attention in front of the right audience. Learn her tips for targeting posts and crafting compelling content during “The ABCs of Social Media Advertising.”
“All four speakers intrigue me,” Nicole Palazzo said. “I look forward to soaking up each one’s knowledge.” But she’s especially eager for Miller’s presentation. “I’ve been wanting to set up a terrarium bar for more than a year, so I’m hoping this will inspire me to finally do it,” she said. “Plus, I’m always interested in learning how to attract more millennials to our shop.”
And, of course, she knows the education isn’t limited to the formal presentations. “One of the best resources at events like these is networking with other people in the industry,” she said. “In the past, I’ve picked up really smart tips during casual conversations.”
