Profit Blast Offers Strategies to Conquer the Holiday Frenzy

SAF’s 1-Day Profit Blast in Chicago on Nov. 5 includes time for attendees to meet vendors and discover new products and services.

Leah Van Ness of Montville Florist in Uncasville, Connecticut, is feeling confident about handling the coming holiday frenzy. That’s because earlier this year, she attended the Society of American Florists’ 1-Day Profit Blast in Boston.

“Educational opportunities within the floral industry have become rare and are more precious,” says Van Ness. “Spending the day with my floral peers, and learning how to improve my business by taking better care of my clients, gave me the boost I needed to refocus. The things I learned will become second nature when the holidays arrive and our workload increases.”

Lori Wilson, PFCI, of Flower Clique, will offer communication tips at the 1-Day Profit Blast in Chicago.

SAF is holding another 1-Day Profit Blast in Chicago on Sunday, Nov. 5, to give attendees new ideas and strategies for success — just in time for the holidays.

Tim Farrell, AAF, AIFD, PFCI, and the recipient of the 2023 Tommy Bright Award, will share strategies for designers of all skill levels, as well as best practices for setting staff expectations so employees always have an optimal performance. Vonda LaFever, AIFD, PFCI and Lori Wilson, PFCI, of Flower Clique will provide communication tips to help shop owners find more common ground with their employees. And Paul Goodman, AAF, MBA, CPA, PFCI, of Floral Finance Business Services will offer strategies on how to control cost of goods sold, forecast sales, and handle cash flow. The event is sponsored by the Bill Doran Company.

There will also be opportunities for attendees to connect with peers and vendors, something that another Profit Blast Boston attendee, Tracy Parke of House of Flora in Hartford, Connecticut, found valuable.

“If you’re feeling burnt out, you’re going to see something new,” Parke says of the event. “And through the questions that are asked on the floor, you’re going to learn something you can bring back to your shop and make it just that little bit better. It’s all a win.”

Her biggest win thus far? The information from one of the speakers, who suggested adding a luxury category to website products, helped her increase her sales.
