Seasoned CPA Shares Insight on Pricing Events for Profits

Sponsored by Flower Shop Network and Baisch & Skinner, SAF’s 1-Day Profit Blast in Kansas City features Derrick Myers, CPA, CFP, PFCI, of Crockett, Myers & Associates Inc., who will present “Eventology: The Science of Profitable Events.”

What happens when a bride walks in and wants to order personal flowers, ceremony and reception designs — and “something really special” for the rehearsal dinner and next-day brunch? How about when she wants “just a few simple bouquets”?

Do you have the procedures in place business to make sure everyone on your team is on the same page when it comes to pricing these very different events profitably?

If you don’t, you’re likely leaving money on the table — and that’s bad for your business, says Derrick Myers, CPA, CFP, PFCI, of Crockett, Myers & Associates Inc., one of the four featured speakers at the Society of American Florists’ 1-Day Profit Blast in Kansas City on July 21.

During his session, “Eventology: The Science of Profitable Events,” Myers will recommend event pricing formulas, including practical ways to ensure you’re appropriately paid for delivery, setup and teardown. And he’ll share what you need to know about each venue — before you price the job.

Myers, a Floral Management contributing writer, also presented “Eventology” at the SAF 1-Day Profit Blast in Louisville, Kentucky, in November 2017 — a session that Carolyn Minutillo, AIFD, EMC, PFCI, owner and principal designer at Lavendar Hill in Jeffersonville, Indiana, remembers well.

“Derrick clearly explained the need and ability to keep better records for a floral business,” Minutillo said. “Information on inventory alone, and the mindset for purchasing, maintaining records and depreciating was very helpful.”

Minutillo said 1-Day Profit Blast is worth the time and money florists invest to attend the educational event.

“I connected with other regional florists and met some new vendors, heard about their products as well as saw them in person,” she explained.
