Your bookkeeper is already a QuickBooks expert — there’s no reason for you to know the nitty-gritty details of the accounting software, right?
Think again, said Michael Pugh, AAF.
“As the owner, you need to be able to verify what your employee is doing,” said Pugh, owner of Pugh’s Flowers in Memphis, Tennessee, and a member of SAF’s Retailers Council. “You check on the delivery driver to make sure that policy and procedures are followed. Designers are held accountable for their work. Isn’t it important to hold the person with your money accountable?”
Pulling from more than 30 years’ experience, Pugh will bring his best QuickBooks tips to Detroit on May 20 for the Society of American Florists’ 1-Day Profit Blast, sponsored by Nordlie and Kennicott Brothers Company.
During “Mastering QuickBooks for Quick Profits,” Pugh will show Profit Blast participants how to:
- Quickly analyze COGS, payroll and facility expenses.
- Import daily sales from POS systems.
- Quickly measure and evaluate performance in individual departments.
- Give staff access to the numbers without giving away sensitive information.
- Make checks, payroll and bank reconciliation.
“There are features that may surprise you,” Pugh said, “like auto reconciliation of checking with a simple transaction download from the bank, document storage, and the class feature, all of which prove helpful.”
The session also promises takeaways for florists who swear by other accounting methods, along with practical reasons to adopt more updated practices.
“In today’s world is just costing designers’ time and money,” Pugh said. “For shops using a QuickBooks competitor, this is a good opportunity to reevaluate and determine if the current system is giving them the best bookkeeping software solution.”
