Camaraderie and charity help a Michigan florist kick off the holidays on the high note.
Blumz…by JR Designs in Ferndale, Michigan, hosts its fifth annual Ladies Night Friday, Nov. 20. The event, which is free to customers, features approximately 20 other local vendors. Some are in the food and beverage industry; others peddle giftware, accessories or bath and body products. Each business has been collecting items for a silent auction to raise funds for “THAW” (The Heat and Warmth Fund), which helps people in the Detroit area pay their winter heating and electrical bills.
“It’s a wonderful way for people to see our store in a slightly different light,” said co-owner Robbin Yelverton, AAF, AIFD, PFCI. “It’s not like a typical open house, where it’s all about you.”
Customers have fun mingling, sampling free food (like Peteet’s famous two-layer cheesecake), and shopping. And they feel great about their night out, because they’re supporting local businesses, as well as those less privileged.
“It helps build a sense of community and creates relationships with other businesses that really pay off in the long run,” Yelverton said.
