The owner of Iris Blossoms in Clearwater, Kansas, has been counting down the days until her trip to Omaha, Nebraska, for the Society of American Florists’ 1-Day Profit Blast on Jan. 14.
“I can hardly wait,” said Iris Zimmerman. “I’ve never been to anything on this scale. I know it’s just the thing to take my business to the next level!”
In the summer of 2016, Zimmerman fulfilled her dream of opening a brick-and-mortar flower shop. Her first 18 months have gone “pretty well,” but she knows there’s room for improvement. “
Most of my education has been centered around design,” she said. “I need a ton of advice when it comes to online stuff. My sales skills could use some work. And I’m pretty sure I’m not charging enough for delivery.”
Lori Krom knows firsthand the value of SAF’s 1-Day Profit Blast. The owner of Tabor Floral in Tabor, Iowa, attended the program in when it came to Des Moines, Iowa, in 2015. When she saw it would again be in her vicinity, she immediately signed up her new designer, Marie Hankins. “It’s a great crash course filled with valuable information for her,” she said.
In particular, she’s eager for Hankins to hear Tim Huckabee’s sales advice.
“Every person on my staff ends up answering phones at some point and has an opportunity to raise our average sales.”
SAF’s 1-Day Profit Blast packs design, sales, technology and management education into an 8-hour program, along with a Supplier Showcase where floral industry vendors share their newest products. Sponsored by the Bill Doran Company, the Omaha event features the following speakers:

She’ll explain how she did it in “Driving Local Orders to Your Shop.”
