Looking for ideas to drive more walk-in traffic to your brick-and-mortar shop? Are your floral design mechanics a little rusty? Could you and your team use a dash of insipiration?

Jody McLeod, AIFD, CFD, NCCPF, and Derek C. Woodruff, AIFD, CFD, CF, PFCI, will give pointers for hosting in-store experiences as well as improving floral design mechanics during the Society of American Florists’ 1-Day Profit Blast in Green Bay, Wisconsin, on Sunday, July 15 sponsored by the Bill Doran Company.

Their presentation “M3: Money Making Mechanics,” sponsored by Syndicate Sales, will offer ideas for interactive attractions that are trending in the retail space. They’ll talk about ideas that not only get customers in the door, but provide a tangible experience that goes beyond making a purchase.

“Setting up activities in your retail shop — such as a terrarium bar or hosting hands-on workshops or events — is a great way to engage consumers and bring them into your store on a regular basis,” Woodruff said. “In doing this, you also form relationships with your consumer base that is widespread as they start to bring friends, family, and others to these events and your store, or just stop in knowing that they will have a great retail experience.”

With a build-your-own terrarium bar, customers and even small children, can scoop rocks and dirt into a container of their choice and top it off with a of small plant. “It’s so simple, but really a modern take on the retail space,” Woodruff said.

He is a big fan of SAF’s 1-Day Profit Blasts. He attended the May event in Detroit and headlined the design program at the 1-Day Profit Blast last year in St. Louis where he gave participants a hands-on terrarium bar experience.

Woodruff is an award-winning floral designer and the owner of the Floral Underground based in Traverse City, Michigan — just a hop over Lake Michigan from Green Bay.

Joining Woodruff on the Green Bay stage is McLeod, also an award-winning floral designer. McLeod owns Annie V’s Floral Design Studio in Clayton, North Carolina, where he has served as its town’s mayor since 2004.

“I’m excited to showcase two innovative and game-changing mechanics that are brand new to the floral design world,” McLeod said. “The Profit Blast attendees will gain a greater awareness of new, creative and profitable mechanics they can use — both those that satisfy the creative challenges of a designer and those that satisfy the bottom line of a shop owner.”

In addition to McLeod and Woodruff’s interactive design program, SAF’s 1-Day Profit Blast in Green Bay features Josh Glass, AAF, vice president, Peoples Flower Shops in Albuquerque, New Mexico, who will present “Pick Me! Stand Out and Sell More Online;” Paul Goodman, MBA, CPA, PFCI, president of Floral Finance Business Services, with “A Roadmap for Profitable Deliveries;” Tim Huckabee, president of FloralStrategies, LLC, with “Smart Selling;” and a Supplier Showcase
