To get consumers thinking about Mother’s Day and how flowers make the perfect gift, Lovingly, a website and POS provider for retail florists, launched a “Free Bouquet for Mom” contest in early April.

To enter, people share a personal story about their mother’s devotion on the company’s Facebook page.

“Lovingly is all about strengthening and celebrating relationships, so Mother’s Day is very important to us,” said Lovingly co-founder and managing partner Joe Vega. “The thought of unconditional love and giving instantly conjures images of our mothers, so there’s a lot to celebrate, to say the least.”

The competition has had an “amazing” response, Vega said. “People started sharing the post with friends and family almost immediately. We have people nominating grandmothers who brought them up, friends nominating friends who are devoted to their children, and mothers who gave and continue to give selflessly. All the stories are very moving and inspiring.”

A panel of judges will evaluate the entries based on the quality of writing and story message. On Sunday, May 6, five winners will be contacted through email, followed by partner florists in the winners’ communities, who will supply a one-of-a-kind bouquet. Lovingly works with more than 1,000 retail florists in the U.S. and Canada.

“Flowers designed by a local florist really express the love felt by the giver. Representing the beauty and fragility of life, flowers help us strengthen our relationships with shared moments and shared joy,” Vega said “Meaningful giving and relationship building is Lovingly’s mission, and we feel that love will never find a more suitable expression than the gift of flowers.”
