A bride included in The New York Times’ story on brides wearing pants rather than dresses chose palazzo pants (and a chic bouquet) for her second trip down the aisle.
We told you last fall about one bridal trend raising eyebrows (and hemlines on tops) — bare midriffs.
Now The New York Times has turned its attention to another show-stopping, convention-bucking fashion choice among chic brides: Pants.
“Some women are saying no to the dreamy walk down the aisle in a flowing gown of lace and silk and chiffon,” wrote Alexis Cheung in a story that ran on the front page of the newspaper’s Style section over the weekend. “They will instead take their spotlight stroll in wedding pants.”
Brides attracted to the look represent a wide swath of the marrying population —“young, older, straight and gay”— but they share a desire to strip “away the tulle and tiaras” and “explore more honest modes of self-presentation,” Cheung wrote.
One important point to note: Those honest modes of self-expression aren’t necessarily less expensive than the ball gowns of yore. A romper included in the story’s roundup of fashionable wedding day pant ensembles retails for nearly $3,000; another pair of pants in the story is $1,000-plus.
