In the January/February issue of Floral Management, HR expert and business coach Glenna Hecht shares her strategic approach to identifying strong leadership candidates.
For starters, don’t rush, she advises. Filling the position quickly might seem necessary, but taking the time to find the right candidate — not just the loudest or most obvious — is crucial.
It’s also important to develop a well-defined job description outlining key traits, skills and expectations. During the search, Hecht recommends looking for candidates who mentor others, demonstrate integrity and show behavioral consistency. On the flip side, she warns against choosing someone who refuses to acknowledge mistakes.
