The Society of American Florists’ membership includes all segments of the industry — and that community is the heart of SAF. This bi-weekly feature will spotlight SAF members sharing inspirational stories, professional insights, and the opportunity to form new industry connections.
Diana Erazo is the sales manager for Ecoroses, a rose growing and exporting company located in the Machachi Valley of Ecuador, just south of Quito. Ecoroses places a special emphasis on the production of original and on-trend rose varieties. Their production processes have earned the company sustainability certifications from the Rainforest Alliance and Flor Ecuador.
Ecoroses is celebrating its 25th anniversary this month. A family business that started in a competitive industry, the company has grown and increased production by almost tenfold, Erazo says.
“We are celebrating this special anniversary both with our close to 400 team members, and with our more than 100 customers from around the world who, with their support and loyalty over the time have made it possible for us to come all this way,” she says.
Biggest Challenge
Ecoroses’ biggest challenge is depending on weather conditions and other factors outside their control when trying to serve their customers in a timely manner.
“For instance, dealing with frost or abundant rain prior to Valentines’ shipments can be quite tricky, not to mention dealing with the occasional volcano activity in our area,” Erazo says. “These are unexpected events we have found in our path yet managed to overcome them successfully.”
Her Secret to Success
Erazo believes focusing on the company’s four pillars is the secret to its success: product quality, freshness, consistency and performance.
Why SAF?
While Ecoroses has always been committed to serving the wholesale market and have supported WF&FSA for many years, the company only recently joined SAF.
“We felt that another way to support our wholesale customers is to support their customers as well, which is why we are happy to be part of the SAF family,” Erazo says.
They enjoy attending SAF events to hear from other industry members. Erazo says it’s most helpful to have “the insight and perspective from players who are closer to the consumer.”
Erazo was recently featured on SAF’s Facebook and Instagram accounts.
