4 Tips to Generate Back to School Business

SAF has tips and resources to help you capture back to school sales.

Back to school season is in full swing, making it the perfect time to score more sales and connect with a new demographic. The Society of American Florists has tips to help you capture back to school business.

  1. Create a fun back to school sign or display outside your store. Parents love capturing first-day-of-school pictures to share on social media. Creating a vignette or sign outside your shop will encourage families to stop by and take photos, getting your name front and center in your community. Offer a simple incentive, such as a free flower or bud vase, discounted arrangement, etc., to visitors who tag your business.
  2. Promote your shop’s desk-sized products. With their stressbusting, mood-boosting, and creativity-enhancing power, plants and flowers make excellent gifts for students and teachers alike. Devote a section of your shop — and website — to selections perfectly sized to fit on a desk. Utilize SAF’s resources (graphics, photos, videos, and suggested social media posts) in your marketing to make customers aware of the health benefits of plants and flowers.
  3. Connect with the sorority crowd. If you’re in a college town, take advantage of opportunities for sorority sales. Look up which chapters are active at local schools and market arrangements in their specific colors. You can also stock up on sorority-themed giftware, such as t-shirts, key chains, car decals, jewelry, tote bags and tumblers.
  4. Make care packages for college students. Heading off to college can be an emotional time for both the students and parents, and a care package can help ease the transition. Bloom Florist in Orlando, Florida has had success with its luxury “Piece of Paradise” gift box. Priced at $125, the care package includes a snake plant, tropical-themed stationery, an orange blossom scented candle, a body scrub, and pineapple-flavored gummy bears.
