Add Visual Interest and Perceived Value with Proteas

Proteas have incredible texture that effortlessly adds visual interest to any design. The November/December issue of Floral Management showcases the many varieties of the flower. Pictured is ‘Ceres’ by Resendiz Brothers.

Need inspiration to jazz up your designs this winter? Consider proteas.

Native to South Africa, this family of flowering plants has 73 genera and more than 1,500 species — all of them with incredible texture that effortlessly adds visual interest to any design. Furthermore, proteas are not widely seen in mass market stores, giving them (and, by extension, your brand) instant cachet. And they dry beautifully, so you can market them as unique keepsakes, pumping up their value even more.

In the latest issue of Floral Management, you’ll find a few of the many varieties in season now, along with a few of the companies that source them. In addition, two of the country’s top designers weigh in on how and why they incorporate proteas in more traditional designs. Click here to learn more.

For even more information on proteas and the efforts of one California farm to raise their prominence, check out “Just Say Yes!” in the October 2018 issue of Floral Management.
