An upcoming move will place a well-known Indianapolis florist closer to key customers — and in the middle of a bustling local redevelopment initiative.
McNamara Florist is gearing up for an extensive relocation about halfway through next year. The move will reposition the company’s headquarters from the affluent area it has called home for more than a decade to what the Indianapolis Star termed one of the city’s “grittiest neighborhoods.”
For Toomie Farris, company president and CEO, however, the move is all about opportunity. “By moving, we’ll reduce our response time significantly to all of our stores” to 30 minutes or less, he said, adding that he was able to buy the new space, currently in the final stages of construction, rather than leasing the current location.
McNamara’s headquarters include corporate offices, warehouse space and a centralized design area for seven flower shops in the Indianapolis area and one shop and a greenhouse in Fort Wayne. The current headquarters building, which the florist has occupied for about 15 years, is located at a far end of the company’s delivery area.
Even better, the new headquarters, about 20 percent larger than the previous space, is much closer to key event sites.
That additional space also hints at Farris’s long-term plan: additional growth. All of the McNamara team will stay on for the move and Farris hopes to add additional employees in the coming years.
That vision and optimism are in line with city leaders’ hopes to revitalize the area of Indianapolis through a series of redevelopment efforts. Currently, plans are on track for the McNamara headquarters to open sometime after Mother’s Day 2016.
