To complememnt the study findings, SAF created eyecatching graphics and a memorable emoji.Plants received a prominent plug last week when the Washington Post named them excellent stress busters. An article in the paper’s home and garden section offered 10 science-backed design tips to create serenity, including “bring nature indoors.”

In the story, Dak Kopec, Ph.D., an expert in environmental psychology who’s written several books on the subject, discussed plants’ many benefits. In addition to being natural air purifies, their organic, irregular shapes “are inherently relaxing to the eye,” he explained. “And they require tending and nurturing, which gives us a sense of control.”

Last spring, the Society of American Florists created a campaign touting plants’ and flowers’ therapeutic attributes. Visit the Stress Less Resource Center to find all sorts of materials, including graphics, suggested social media posts, sample press releases and promotional ideas that SAF members can put to use in their local markets.

Katie Hendrick Vincent is the senior contributing editor for the Society of American Florists.
