The Society of American Florists’ membership includes all segments of the industry — and that community is the heart of SAF. This bi-weekly feature spotlights SAF members sharing inspirational stories, professional insights, and the opportunity to form new industry connections.
Marcia Villiers has a background in accounting, but arranging flowers has always been a passion because of their beauty and their fragrant therapeutic benefits. She opened Beautiful Kreations in Sunrise, Florida in 2005.
Eighteen years later, Beautiful Kreations has become a highly sought-after floral design business known for its eclectic, garden, modern and tropical styles at weddings, corporate and social events, Villiers says.
Tips to Grow Event Business
The best way to grow event business, Villiers says, is to “stay connected to your tribe and network, network, network!”
She aims to be on several venues’ preferred vendors lists. “This helps to increase your chance of getting noticed, which could lead to a potential booking,” Villiers says.
Advice on Communicating with Freelance Designers
“Being timely with communications is the hallmark of our event’s success,” Villers says. “This avoids any last-minute surprises.”
She provides her team with access to Office 365, which enables her to schedule upcoming events on the calendar. Her team has the access to the calendar on their phones, and can not only see when an event is scheduled, but also all the details of the event.
“In an instant, everyone is on the same page, eliminating communication errors,” Villiers says.
Favorite Way to Save Money
While she loves seeing trends incorporated into event work, she is cautious not to purchase too many trendy hardgoods in an effort to save money and keep her inventory streamlined.
“I tend to lean more towards the classics,” she says. “This helps to keep a clean inventory of sustainable pieces that help to improve the bottom line.”
Why SAF?
Beautiful Kreations is a new SAF member. Villiers is looking forward to improving her business through SAF’s resources, and learning more about the global industry.
Villiers was recently featured on SAF’s Facebook and Instagram accounts.
