Hopeful grooms aren’t the only ones pressured to make grand gestures these days. Over the past 15 or so years, high school students have been coming up with creative, clever and over-the-top ways to ask their classmates to prom — a trend that’s only been amplified with the ever increasing prominence of social media.
Eager to get in on the “promposal” craze, Expressions Unlimited in Greenville, South Carolina, recently posted a pitch on Facebook: “Let us help you nail this year’s promposal! We’ve got plants, flowers, bears, and we’re pretty good at puns!”
Prom season hasn’t yet hit the Greenville market, said Aly Queen, the shop’s social media manager. But she’s optimistic that the plug will register with some of the city’s local teens—or, at the very least, remind recent prom customers to place their orders for this year’s dance.
