One of the world’s leading companies in breeding and producing vegetable and ornamental seed and vegetative cuttings is marking a landmark anniversary with a series of philanthropic partnerships.
Sakata Seed’s “40 Acts of Kindness” campaign celebrates the company’s 40th anniversary in North America.
Through the campaign, “we’ve committed to support 40 organizations in the nutrition, health and environmental arenas that aim to improve life, community and culture throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico and Central America,” said Jamie Kitz, key accounts manager with Sakata Ornamentals. “By contributing both our human and financial resources, we can support organizations that help people live productive, healthy and enriched lives, and, at the same time, build more sustainable communities.
The Society of American Florists is one of the organizations Sakata plans to support during this yearlong promotion. The company is planning to leave “a big footprint” during SAF’s Petal It Forward event on Oct. 11, when it will partner with growers in Monterey and Santa Cruz counties in California.
Other efforts include:
American Floral Endowment Fundraising. From July 10 to Aug. 18, contributions made to AFE will be matched dollar-for-dollar by Sakata up to $10,000.
Therapy Garden Support. Through the National Garden Bureau, Sakata is sponsoring the Therapy Garden Program. “This program supports the building and growth of therapeutic gardens across North America,” Kitz explained. “This program furthers NGB’s mission of promoting gardening to gardeners and non-gardeners alike.” Applications are due July 1.
Tour De Fresh Drive. The 2017 Tour de Fresh aims to privately finance 50+ new salad bars in school districts across the country. At a cost of approximately $3,000 per salad bar per school, this is a small investment that makes a BIG impact. Since 2014, Tour de Fresh has raised over $400,000 to provide salad bars to schools across the United States!
