America in Bloom promotes nationwide beautification through education and community involvement by encouraging the use of flowers, plants, trees, and other environmental and lifestyle enhancements. In Castle Rock, Washington, city leaders credit the group for helping to reduce the downtown vacancy rate from 39 percent in 2010 to 8 percent today. Last year, Castle Rock won AIB’s YouTube contest.

As America in Bloom gets ready to celebrate its fifteenth anniversary in October, the nonprofit dedicated to beautifying U.S. communities with flowers, plants and trees is making a strategic fundraising push.

The special crowdfunding effort aims to raise $115,000 in new funds to advance the AIB mission. Donors who contribute by Sept. 15 will be included in the program for the group’s 15th Anniversary Symposium & Awards Program Celebration in Arroyo Grande, California, October 6-8.

The nonprofit has helped galvanize local beautification and revitalization efforts since its inception.

“The America in Bloom experience, where people get behind an event, get behind an activity, has taught us now to do projects,” said Marilyn Young Skogland, president of the Castle Rock, Washington, Chamber of Commerce.

City leaders in Castle Rock credit AIB with helping reduce the downtown vacancy rate from 39 percent in 2010 to 8 percent today.
