South American flower farms are facing numerous challenges that affect pricing.

Flower prices have been climbing, and the reasons go far beyond simple supply and demand.

In the Viewpoint opinion column in the January/February issue of Floral Management, Victor Giorgini, CEO of Equiflor/Rio Roses, sheds light on the challenges of growers in Colombia and Ecuador, the top two countries from which the U.S. imports fresh cut flowers.

“Pricing flowers fairly for both our customers and our bottom line is a constant struggle these days,” says Giorgini says. “Rising prices are not about growers trying to take advantage of increased demand. The industry’s ability to thrive depends on having a sustainable supply chain, and that starts with acknowledging the realities that growers face.”

To learn more about the pressures on costs, read “On Understanding Flower Prices” in the January/February issue of Floral Management.
