Professional Floral Communicators – International (PFCI) has gathered a star-studded panel to celebrate its anniversary. “Rise & Shine: 50 Years of Talking,” takes place in Denver on Saturday, July 4, in conjunction with the AIFD National Symposium 2015.
“We’ve asked our best and brightest — the mentors who inspired us to grow as well as the new voices of today — to share their favorite tips for a successful presentation,” said Lisa Weddel, AAF, AIFD, PFCI, of L. Weddel Design in Highlands Ranch, Colorado, and chairman of PFCI. “If you’re someone who loves talking about flowers and floral design to garden clubs or other professionals, you’re going to get a lot out of this program.”
A sneak preview of some of that advice:
- “Every performer experiences butterflies. Butterflies motivate you to do your best. The secret to handling them is preparation,” said Frankie Shelton, AAF, AIFD, PFCI, in Houston, and the 1989 Tommy Bright Award recipient for lifetime achievement in floral presentation. “A speaker must know and practice their opening and closing many times until they feel confident that the words will flow. I never walk on stage without practicing my opening and closing many times. This technique calms those butterflies.”
- The panelists also will answer questions about handling hecklers, how to get your “mojo” back when you lose your audience and where they see the future of floral speaking headed.
