Turn Marketing Dollars Into Lasting Customer Loyalty

Landing a new customer can feel like a marketing win. But the real payoff may come months — or even years — after that first arrangement leaves the shop.

For floral businesses, measuring marketing success by a single transaction can obscure the bigger financial picture. A customer who spends $90 on a first arrangement could become someone who orders three times a year for birthdays, anniversaries, holidays and other occasions. Over five years, that relationship could generate $1,350 in revenue — before factoring in referrals.

“Don’t mistake the first order for the finish line. It’s simply the introduction,” writes floral accountant Derrick P. Myers, PFCI, in the September/October issue of Floral Management.

That’s why Myers encourages florists to consider customer lifetime value when evaluating marketing investments. Rather than focusing exclusively on how much it costs to acquire a customer, business owners should examine whether their marketing efforts are creating relationships that generate repeat purchases.

That means looking beyond impressions, clicks, likes and website visits. How many first-time customers order again? How many join the shop’s email list? How many become repeat holiday shoppers or refer friends and family?

The answers can help florists determine whether they’re building a valuable customer base or continually paying to acquire the next order.

Read “Invest in Loyalty” in the September/October issue of Floral Management to learn how to evaluate customer lifetime value, strengthen direct customer relationships and make marketing investments that can generate returns for years to come.
