The floral industry experienced several changes this year, marked by closures, consolidations, acquisitions and evolving business dynamics.
Rosaprima, the premier grower of high-end luxury roses, in February acquired of Ecuatorian Flowers. The Delaware Valley Floral Group announced in March that it was acquiring Kennicott Brother’s Paramus, New Jersey location and announced in October that it would acquire Zieger & Sons, Inc. Continental Floral Greens announced in August that it is leasing Sun Valley Floral Farms, following the May announcement of Sun Valley’s closure. And earlier this month, the Elite Flower Group acquired USA Bouquet, expanding Elite’s footprint and service offerings across the U.S.
On the retail side of things, Polites Florist, a 4th generation retailer, acquired Farrell’s Florist in Drexel Hill, Pennsylvania. Family Flowers, which has more than 30 retail shops across 10 states, announced in March the acquisition of two flower brands in Colorado: Palmer Flowers (three locations) and Paul Wood Florist (four locations). In addition, Family Flowers also purchased and incorporated two shops near its existing locations: Bloom Floral Boutique in Fort Collins, Colorado (now part of Paul Wood Florist) and The Flower Company of New Mexico in Albuquerque, New Mexico (now part of Peoples Flower Shops).
