We know! We know! You’re in the belly of the Valentine’s Day beast right now — but the days after the holiday are just as important for florists who want to set themselves up for success in years to come. SAF resources can help.
Here are some tips, tools and resources that are perfect to review with your team on Feb. 15, 16, 17 and beyond:
Take notes. SAF President Chris Drummond, AAF, PFCI, of Penny’s by Plaza Flowers in the Philadelphia metro area suggests taking notes immediately after the holiday on what went well and what could have gone better. Include nitty-gritty details, such as how many contract drivers you reached out to and how many actually showed up, along with overall big picture sales trends, so that you are in a better position in 2021 to plan for products, staffing and more.
Praise your team. Valentine’s Day is an all-hands-on-deck exercise and your team is probably feeling that effort right now. Take the time to publicly praise employees who went above and beyond and to reward the entire team’s effort — with kudos, meals, or other perks, suggests Glenna Hecht of Humanistic Consulting, a contributor to SAF’s Floral Management magazine.
Pivot to spring. Don’t rest on your laurels! Spring holidays — including Women’s Day, Easter, Passover, Administrative Professionals Week and Mother’s Day — are approaching fast. Make sure your social media and digital platforms are ready with springtime graphics from SAF.
