Major Garrett, CBS News’ Chief White House Correspondent and Columnist at Large for National Journal, will speak at the SAFPAC Reception and Dinner* during the 38th Annual Congressional Action Days, March 12-13, in Washington, D.C.

Viewers of CBS News broadcasts and “Face The Nation” will recognize the new speaker added to the lineup at the Society of American Florists’ 38th Annual Congressional Action Days, March 12-13 in Washington, D.C.

Major Garrett, the CBS News’ Chief White House Correspondent and columnist at large for National Journal, will share an insider’s perspective of the political scene, during the SAFPAC Reception and Dinner on March 12.

“He is a big deal,” said Shawn McBurney, SAF’s senior director of government relations. “Major Garrett is universally recognized as balanced, having worked for the White House teams of both CNN and Fox News. His speeches are known for his anecdotes from his time on Capitol Hill, relationships with top political players, and from the presidential campaigns he’s covered.”

For 30 years, Garrett has reported from the frontlines of the nation’s pressing issues, chasing and breaking news stories. He began his journalism career as a police and general assignment reporter, and has since covered Congress for two major magazines and served as White House correspondent for three television networks. As the Chief White House Correspondent for CBS News, he covered the 2016 Republican race for the White House. Beginning in the summer of 2015, he covered every GOP debate and significant campaign event for CBS.

Known for asking tough questions, Major’s extensive and award-winning print and television work is well-known and has drawn the public wrath of Presidents Obama and Trump among others. He has worked with outlets including U.S. News and World Report, The Washington Times, The Weekly Standard, and Mother Jones.

Garrett’s presentation at the SAFPAC Reception and Dinner* is among the highlights of SAF’s Congressional Action Days. Last year, Congressional Action Days drew 119 growers, wholesalers, retailers and suppliers — including 35 first-time participants — from 30 states to Washington, D.C., to talk to lawmakers on Capitol Hill about their businesses and the floral industry’s legislative priorities.

“The ability to sit with representatives from your state and speak with them about the important issues that impact the floral industry is so important,” said Kristen Gainan-Sparboe of Gainan’s Flowers in Billings, Montana, after participating last year. “Plus, it’s really exciting to be on the Hill witnessing all the action and being a part of it all.”
