After the recent death of Nancy Reagan, one florist is remembering the former First Lady as soft-spoken, gentle — and quick to show her appreciation.

George Griffith, co-owner of the Flower Barn, recently shared memories of his time decorating the White House for holidays and private parties with the NBC affiliate in Johnstown, Pennsylvania.

“She was very formal, very appreciative, very gentle, very quietly spoken and she couldn’t be more expressive in her appreciation,” said Griffith. “It was always a great honor.”

Other tributes to Mrs. Reagan have noted her attention to detail and love of peonies, flowers she requested before her death to be included in her memorial service.

Griffith has owned the Flower Barn for nearly 60 years. He made his mark as an undergrad at Penn State where he helped to float more than 2,000 water lily blooms for President Dwight D. Eisenhower’s visit in 1955.   Read more.
