Increase Falls Sales with High Texture Cuts

sept24_swu2Could one of the “biggest trends in floral design” help increase your average transaction and set you apart from the grab-and-go selections available at the supermarket this fall?

Sandy Schroeck, AIFD, PFCI, a freelance designer in Eden Prairie, Minnesota, said “you betcha” to Society of American Florist contributing writer Katie Hendrick in this month’s issue of Floral Management magazine.

The big trend she’s discussing is texture, and for fall design work, celosia can deliver texture and more to customers looking for a little something different (ahem, no cornucopias, please).

“Its unusual shapes and vibrant colors always draw attention,” Schroeck said. “It looks great with loose garden flowers — for the ‘field to vase’ look — as well as in clustered designs.”

In Colorado Springs, freelance designer Cindy Anderson, AIFD, PFCI, recommends drying cockscomb celosia, enhancing it with color (Design master color tool “Basil” and “Cranberry” are her favorites) and offering it as a chic, permanent arrangement.

Check out some of the latest varieties  of celosia and get inspired with fresh celosia designs  that retail from $85 to $115 (with wholesale costs of $25 to $35) in the September issue of Floral Management.
