Impact of Congressional Meetings Goes Beyond March Fly-In

by | Apr 3, 2024 | Floral Industry News | 0 comments

The Society of American Florists’ first Congressional fly-in of 2024 wrapped up in March, but the impact of the conversations with representatives is long-lasting.

More than a dozen retailers, wholesalers, growers and importers met with legislators on Capitol Hill March 19. They petitioned the offices to pass measures that will provide more affordable access to cut flowers, improve crop insurance for flower farms, and fund research that helps improve flower and plant quality and production.

Those meetings illustrated to legislators the importance of the measures and forged new connections that will keep the industry’s needs top of mind. (In fact, one attendee is already planning to host a representative at his growing operation.)

In this video, SAF Senior Lobbyist Joe Bischoff, Ph.D., explains how the fly-in furthers the industry’s needs, and helps him advocate on behalf of SAF every day.
