The more specific and clear your prompts, the better the AI’s responses will likely be.

Clarity is Key

AI models operate best when the instructions given are clear and explicit. Avoid ambiguous language and aim for precise, straightforward prompts. This reduces the chances of misunderstanding and increases the likelihood of an accurate response. For example, you might prompt the AI: “List 10 marketing ideas for Day of the Dead promotions. Instead of using the word ‘death’ use the word ‘celebration’ in the copy you create. Include a timeline leading up to the day.”

Context Matters

While AI models have been trained on diverse data, they don’t possess human-like understanding or context. Therefore, providing necessary context within your prompts will help guide the AI towards generating a more relevant response. For example, if your business is celebrating its 75th anniversary and you’re asking the AI to help write a blog post, you might tell the AI: “Please create an SEO optimized blog post announcing 75th anniversary.” Provide the AI with the history of the business and information about what your business does. Include relevant links and images. Pro tip: Add your voice description or brand voice details to get responses that sound like you.

Experiment with Prompts

Don’t be afraid to experiment with different prompts. If you’re not getting the results you want, try rephrasing your question or request. Sometimes, slightly tweaking the wording can lead to significantly different outcomes.

Use Conversational Tone

Although AI doesn’t understand language in the same way humans do, using a conversational tone can often lead to better results. This is because many AI models have been trained on conversational text, making them more adept at handling such prompts.

Limit Sensitive Information

While many AI platforms have strong data protection policies, it’s generally a good practice to avoid sharing sensitive or personal information in your prompts. This helps ensure your privacy and keeps your data secure.

AI has made significant strides, but it’s not perfect. Understanding what AI can and can’t do will help you set realistic expectations and use the technology more effectively. (AI is NOT a search engine!)
