With a few exceptions (Ebenezer Scrooge, the Grinch, Kim Jung Un), people who celebrate Christmas love the holiday’s décor. What those millions of revelers lack, however, is the patience and talent to deck the halls without the urge to throw up their hands and shout, “Bah humbug!”
In Regina, Saskatchewan, the staff of Wascana Flower Shoppe has discovered a solution for the masses who want to liven up their home or workspace with some holiday cheer without spending a ton of time or money.
Christmas tree kits!
The shop sells pint-sized evergreens in a bag, priced at $40, which includes LED lights and all sorts of instructions.
“They’re completely customizable,” said Tanya Anderson, the shop’s creative director. “They have everything you would need to make your own planter, Grinch tree, wreath, etc.”
Wascana has offered variations of this particular kit in the past, always with great success.
“People love them,” Anderson said. “We just market them on social media and they always sell out.”
The simplicity of the kits makes them irresistible to customers with long to-do lists preparing for the holidays.
“Humans are busier than they’ve ever been before,” said Daniel Levine, who serves as director of The Avant-Guide Institute, a global trends consultant, and editor of WikiTrend, during the keynote address at SAF Amelia Island 2015. “If you are able to make their lives easier, customers will appreciate and reward you.”
The kits are especially popular with groups, be they co-workers, ladies’ auxiliaries or nonprofits. “They make it easy for people to host their own DIY parties,” Anderson explained. “They can kick back in their own space with a few bottles of wine and go at it!”
