2021 Mother’s Day Results
Sales were up year over year for more than 85 percent of respondents to the Society of American Florists’ Mother’s Day Survey 2021, with new customers doing most of the buying.
Florists said they saw an increased demand for flowers and plants at Mother’s Day because of continued social distancing due to COVID. Of those who saw sales increase, about a third (32 percent) said their sales went up between 21 and 50 percent, with 27 percent saying their sales increased 11 to 20 percent, and 20 percent seeing up to a 10 percent increase.

2020 Mother’s Day Results
Seventy percent of floral industry members responding to a Society of American Florists survey reported an increase in Mother’s Day sales — with many saying they could have sold even more flowers if they’d been able to source additional product or bring in more staff. “I don’t know if I could have planned for this year,” wrote one Arizona retailer. “It hit me like a tsunami.”
“I was anticipating pent up demand for flowers due to quarantine, and we got it,” wrote a retailer in Florida. “This was my best Mother’s Day ever.”
In Washington, “it was a huge week proms, weddings, graduation and funerals that we usually have” this time of year, explained another retailer.

2018 Mother’s Day Results
Mother’s Day 2018 will go down in the books as a strong holiday for many florists: 60 percent of retail florist respondents to a Society of American Florists’ post-holiday survey reported a sales increase. The same percentage reported an increase last year. Small shops ($150,000 or less in annual sales), large operations ($1 million-plus in annual sales) and florists in suburban locations reported an especially strong holiday this year. Read article.

2017 Mother’s Day Results
Predictions of a robust Mother’s Day proved to be on target for many florists. According to a post-holiday survey conducted, about 60 percent of member florists saw increased sales this year. Roughly 20 percent said sales were about the same as 2016. Around 16 percent saw a drop. Read the story.

Florists around the country are feeling pretty good about Mother’s Day 2016. Overall, sales were up for many, and average transactions were slightly higher than 2015 returns, according to the Society of American Florists’ post-holiday survey.
