SAF’s Petal It Forward recipients will receive this message with their bouquets: “Science proves flowers make people happy. If these did the trick, show us at #petalitforward.” Members can download this template from safnow.org/pif-card and have their print shop or copy center customize it with their Instagram, Twitter and Facebook accounts.
The Society of American Florists is at it again, tapping into the popularity of random acts of kindness with its public relations campaign, “Petal It Forward.” On October 19, SAF’s marketing team will return to New York City and randomly present people with two bouquets: one to keep and one to share with someone special in their life or a stranger who could use a smile.
To increase the campaign’s reach (and, of course, the message that flowers can make someone’s day), SAF will encourage the lucky recipients to share how they “petal it forward” by posting a picture using the hashtag #PetalItForward and tagging SAF’s Instagram (@About_Flowers), Twitter (@FlowerFactor) or Facebook (@Aboutflowers) accounts.
SAF urges industry members to host their own giveaways in their communities on October 19, to make Petal It Forward a nationwide event. SAF provides members with Petal It Forward resources and advice to easily implement their own events at safnow.org/petalitforward.
Among the resources is a flower card template. Now is the time to create or print SAF’s pre-made, customizable Petal It Forward card to attach to your flowers. The template can also be used to create stickers. Check with your city to see if you need permission to hand out flowers in public areas.
SAF is compiling a list of local Petal It Forward events to show national media that this event is happening all over the country. Please complete the Petal It Forward Participation Form at safnow.org/PIFform and submit it by October 3, 2016, so that SAF can include your event on the list it gives national media.
