According to a recent study by Eventbrite, 78 percent of millennials said they would rather spend their money on vacations, athletic competitions, performances or classes than on material objects.

Speaking at Inc.’s iCONIC L.A. conference, Eventbrite co-founder Julia Hartz explained the “gathering” trend and why it trumps materialism.

“As humans, we are fulfilled by interaction — by being together physically and inspiring each other,” Hartz said.

With experiences, millennials create irreplaceable memories, bond with loved ones, and gain a sense of community.

Try this:

  • Schedule some design classes.
  • Forget the plain white screen and have a photo shoot with real live people enjoying your flowers (at a baby shower, a formal dance, a dinner party, etc.) so millennials see how flowers and life’s special moments go hand in hand.
  • Appeal to foodies by partnering with an exclusive restaurant to offer private dinner parties. Perhaps your community even has a secret supper club.
  • Organize tours of a local greenhouse or flower farm.
