Be a Mobile Marketing Master

Nearly 80 percent of Americans (more than 186 million of them!) own a smartphone, according to ComScore.

“Figuring out the best way to reach those customers (and understanding how and why they pull out those devices) has become a marketing strategy for businesses of all sizes,” said SAF Chief Information Officer Renato Sogueco, author of Floral Management’s Plugged In column. In this month’s issue, Sogueco outlines specific ways to reach smartphone users. Among them:

  • Keep your Facebook page updated with compelling posts, including rich media such as photos and videos. (Facebook is by and large the most frequented app for most people.) In your posts, include links that lead visitors to your website and to the exact content referenced (a corsage for prom, a bridal bouquet, a Father’s Day gift basket). “Doning so will build relevant inbound links that score SEO points and reduce your website’s bounce rate,” Sogueco said.
  • Get listed in Google’s mobile database “Remember, Google handles mobile searches differently than those originating from a laptop or desktop,” Sogueco said. “Mobile searches use the smartphone’s GPS function to help find relevant, often local, results.” Even a non-descript search, such as “florist,” can lead to your shop — if you’ve registered with Google.
